Created in 1555, as a gift from Queen Mary to her husband Philip II of Spain
This collection of maps and charts comprises the Queen Mary Atlas, one of the greatest cartographic treasures of the British Library. With aggressively English and Spanish content, it reflects the self-image of both, and specifically their war aims against France in 1556-9. This page shows parts of Arabia, East Africa, Persia, Western India and Madagascar.
