A map of Cyprus, c.1570
The work of Giacomo Franco, a 20-year-old Venetian engraver and printer. The detailed accuracy (including 75% of the villages) was such that it was not bettered until British 19th-century surveys. There was a surge in interest in Cyprus following the invasion and conquest of the island by the Turks in 1570.
