Constantinople c.1600

Braun and Hogenberg’s map of Constantinople, taken from Civitates Orbis Terrarum, their much-celebrated multi-volume atlas.

A map of Constantinople from around 1600

By Georg Braun and Frans Hogenberg, and taken from Civitates Orbis Terrarum, a multi-volume city atlas. Published between 1572 and 1617, this eventually contained almost 550 views and maps of cities all over the world. This map has north to the right, and includes portraits of twelve sultans, along with several characters in local dress, a familiar feature of Braun’s maps.
