The earliest known complete map of Cambridge
Engraved by Richard Lyre and first published in 1574. It is sometimes found bound into copies of Historia Cantebrigiensis Academiae, a history of Cambridge University, by John Caius. Caius (original name John Kays), the second founder of Gonville & Caius College in 1557, and its Master until 1573, was also Physician to Edward VI, Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth I, although he was dismised from this role in 1568 for his refusal to renounce his Roman Catholicism.
