The 1739 edition of Captain John Bonner’s highly detailed 1722 map of Boston, the first printed map of the city
Originally published by Francis Dewing, later versions after 1726 were much added to and published by William Price. Bonner was a seaman and shipwright, whilst Dewing was one of the first map engravers and printers in America, having been born in England. He was accused of counterfeiting in 1722, and probably returned to London.
